Computer Music Journal has established a nonprofit membership program, Friends of CMJ, to support the Journal's editorial production and development. There are five membership categories:

• Friend -- $35 to $99 per year
  
• Donor -- $100 to $199 per year
  
• Sustaining (Individual) -- $200 or more per year
  
• Sustaining (Institutional) -- $500 or more per year
  
• Lifetime -- a one-time donation of $5,000 or more
  

All Sustaining members receive a one-year subscription to Computer Music Journal, including the annual CMJ compact disc. Lifetime members receive annual subscriptions with annual compact discs for life. Each member is listed as a Friends of CMJ member, by category, in four issues of the Journal during the year following the contribution (unless anonymity is requested). All contributions over the subscription amount are tax-deductible in the USA.
